A Taste of Shanghai, A Gathering of NUS Alumni

The alumni edition of “A Taste of NUS”(舌尖上的国大) visits MANOR 33 for a celebration of Shanghai flavours, exploring the restaurant’s story and the friendships formed through the NUS Chinese EMBA programme.
A shared meal brings familiar flavours to Singapore and creates a space for conversation and connection. In its alumni edition, “A Taste of NUS” visits MANOR 33 to explore the cultural memories behind its Shanghai cuisine through food and conversations around the table.
During the episode, MANOR 33 founder Qian Chunlei shares the inspiration behind the restaurant, the meaning of its Chinese name, and its culinary approach. Rooted in Shanghai traditions, the menu incorporates Cantonese influences and ingredients from different regions, preserving familiar tastes while introducing fresh dimensions.
From steamed fish with yellow pepper sauce and steamed egg with crab roe to braised pork with abalone and Shanghai scallion oil noodles, each dish opens a conversation about home, heritage and the memories that flavours hold. Discussions also touch on the guests’ EMBA experiences, reflections on life and lasting alumni friendships, lending warmth to the gathering.
At MANOR 33, we see the dining table as a place where people come together. Through thoughtfully prepared Shanghai cuisine, we hope to make every gathering an occasion worth remembering.
